Help with Lego pneumatics.?
I am thinking of starting work with lego pneumatics and I was wondering if there is anything I should get more than one of. I know I'll need an air tank, and one pump, and maybe six to eight cylinders (plan to make robotic arm with them). Is there anything else that I should get? Do I need to get the tube splitters? Are switches necesary? How much hose should I buy? Do I need more than one tank? Anyway you get the idea. Any hep is appreciated.
Seriously, any pointers would be greatly appresiated. Note that I do not plan on spending $100,000 on a college education to play with legos, I merely want to challenge myself. I am in high school, so, again, I'm not paying $100,000 for anything. Thanks in advance.
First you better think about the brain before thinking about the arm. You need to have the brain make the output for the motion before the arm is assembled. You will need a system of electronics and several switches, tubing, and pneumatic devices that will cause the arms and fingers to bend. 15 for the fingers and three for the fore arm and 5 for the upper arm. each unit will need two tubes. And you will need a joy stick to control the electronics input and so you will know what the output will be. I would recommend you take a two year course in electronics and at least one year in control circuits. Your total cost could be around $100,000.00. Is the arm worth it. If you believe so and you do it there will be a high paying job waiting for you.
